Technical material and formulations are listed separately, each with its declared minimum potency in international units (IU). Specifications added to the enquiry list can be sent together with other products in one purchase or registration enquiry.

Technical materials

Technical material for formulators. Each specification states the assay, relevant impurities and test methods.

Bacillus thuringiensis 50000 IU/mg TC≥ 50000 IU/mg

Single active formulations

Finished formulations of a single active ingredient, packed and labelled for the destination market.

Bacillus thuringiensis 16000 IU/mg WP≥ 16000 IU/mg
Bacillus thuringiensis 32000 IU/mg WP≥ 32000 IU/mg
Bacillus thuringiensis 8000 IU/µL SC≥ 8000 IU/µL

Approved uses differ by country; the label registered in the destination market applies.

Quality specification

Microbial product: potency is stated in international units (IU) per mg or per µL, determined by bioassay against a reference standard. The FAO/WHO clauses for chemical pesticides do not apply; the potency, physical properties, storage conditions and shelf life of each specification are agreed in the product specification, and the batch certificate of analysis reports the measured values.

Mode of action & use

Mode of action

Crystal proteins (Cry toxins) produced by the bacterium are activated in the alkaline insect midgut, bind specific receptors and disrupt the gut membrane.

Acts by ingestion; larvae must feed on treated surfaces, so good spray coverage matters.

Typical targets and crops

Caterpillars such as diamondback moth, cabbage worms, armyworms and bollworms in vegetables, fruit, cotton, field crops and forestry; acts mainly on young larvae. Some formulations are permitted in organic production.

Resistance management · IRAC 11A

Bacillus thuringiensis toxins bind specific midgut receptors; resistance has developed in some caterpillars, including diamondback moth. Apply against young larvae and rotate with other IRAC groups.

This is general information on the active ingredient. Registered crops, targets, rates and preharvest intervals follow the label approved in each market.
