Check the formulation and application method
Liquid, powder and granular products have different handling and application requirements. Consider these when selecting a product. Even when the biological basis is relevant, a formulation may be unsuitable if it cannot be used with the customer’s equipment or working practices.
Live inoculants and soluble actives need different specifications
A live inoculant needs a relevant measure of activity and appropriate shelf-life information. A product based on soluble biologically active ingredients needs its own composition and stability information. Calling both products “biological” does not make their specifications interchangeable.
Confirm product-specific storage requirements
Some dry microbial products and some liquids can have very different storage needs. Avoid a single blanket statement for the entire portfolio. The relevant product document should define packaging, shelf life and handling requirements for the version being supplied.
Review compatibility for the intended use
Compatibility information needs to identify the formulation, application route and other inputs involved. Information for a seed-applied product may not apply to a soil-applied formulation.
